The T-Fal 12" cast iron pan is a great piece of work and is priced to compete.
Pro's
- Durable
- Large enough to cook more food, (for example 4 pancakes instead of 1 or 2)
- Assist handle on opposite to main handle
- Heats well and goes in the oven
Con's
- Heavy (as is all cast iron cookware)
- Maintenance required (unlike a steel pan, need to wash and dry the cast iron immediately as you do all cast iron cookware).
Heavy but Durable, do not drop it. I can use a metal spatula and I do not see any cuts or damage to the pan, unlike non-stick/Teflon coated pans.
Able to cook full meals in this pan. Meals enough for or 3 (maybe 4 if the kids are young). Used it for 1 pot meals where we have the meat, veggies, sauce all in the same pan. Perfect for steak, get a good sear on both sides, then throw it in the oven. The pan deep enough as well has pouring spouts either side of the pan, makes getting the fat or oils out or if you use the fat or oils to make a gravy, can pour it out easily.
To deal with the weight and assist with pouring and maneuvering they have added a second handle to assist, holding the pan with both provides amazing balance and lightens the load on the wrists, as well as makes it easy to pour out that gravy that was mentioned earlier.
This pan is great because it is cast iron. You get even heating as well as you can throw it in the oven. Do not forget to wear some hot gloves or have a cloth to grab the pan after.
Maintenance wise, it is a bit of a hassle. You need to wash and scrub the pan then dry it immediately. Otherwise, you will see rust spots which you will need to wash out / brush out, there are a lot of videos on Youtube to remedy rust on cast iron. However the versatility and quality makes it worth the hassle.
