Hydra Care Supplement for Cat Hydration
Beneficial But Expensive

Several months ago my 16 year old cat Mischief was diagnosed with early kidney disease and has since been on a veterinarian prescribed diet of mostly wet food. After reading about Purina Hydra Care (there’s a very helpful informational video on their site!), I was hopeful about it helping to improve her kidney function and quality of life. It has a ‘liver flavor’, so of course Mischief lapped it all up at once! Its formula is meant to help cats retain moisture, providing 98% hydration. While you don’t need a vet prescription to purchase, I want to point out that this is VERY EXPENSIVE. I ordered a case, and didn’t realize that my 8 pound cat would need TWO pouches per day for optimal hydration. At $45 for 36 pouches, I’d be looking at nearly $100 a month! As I’m already giving her wet canned food, I’ve decided to mix a pouch with a can of her (also super expensive) prescribed food. Hopefully it will still aid in moisture retention and possible improve her lab levels in the coming months. Final thoughts/recommendations: cost aside, I do think cats who have certain health issues would definitely stand to benefit from this nutrient rich water. I received this product at a discount in exchange for my honest opinion.
