DISCLAIMER: I received this product for a discount in exchange for my completely honest review. TBH...I was already familiar Barillas Red Lentil pasta. A few months back, my wife brought it home as a grocery sale item pick up...completely random. Though I had forgotten the details, I remember having enjoyed it.
This time around, I decided to try it with pesto. The green of the sauce and the red of the pasta did not make for an eye popping combination. In fact, it came out looking kind of brown. The flavor, though, was still there and as soon as I took my first bite, I recalled why it had stood out. It was its texture; firm, yet soft...al dente, yet fully cooked. My mouth loved it.
I also grabbed a box of the Chickpea Casarecce (not an on option for review, but I am going to anyways.) The shape in and of itself was different and fun. It was definitely not a shape i was familiar with. Instead of a typical pasta dish, we tried it in a tomato based, chicken soup.
It worked perfectly. When I say perfectly, I dont mean that day...I mean three days later. A lot of pasta soups become mushy in texture over time. This pasta didn't do that. Three days later, it still had the same firmness as day 1.
This review is my honest review. I did truly love this product. It will definitely be included in my regular shopping list.
