This TV is so thin, it's hard to imagine that it is actually real. It's almost an issue. We have a power plug just behind the wall where the TV is mounted, but that is of no use as the connection box is separate to the TV and is connected through a slim, almost see through cable. That means you can't have the TV with no cable when you have a power outlet on the wall, but this is not really a problem. The whole aesthetic with such a thin TV stands out, all in a good way.
The fin cable coming from the TV is hardly noticeable and it make connecting the One Connect Box easy. You can place the box anywhere you want, the cable is pretty long. It’s such a neat solution that I'm amazed no other TV have the same.
The viewing angle are near-flawless. Even at the widest angles, colors remain vibrant and blacks remain pure. This is no longer an obvious advantage of OLED and that’s a huge step forward.
I was a bit skeptical regarding the sound due to the slim frame. However the sound portion of the Intelligent Mode is split into two parts: Adaptive Sound, which optimizes sound based on your room size as well as the position of your TV, and the characteristics of each scene. The second mode is Adaptive Volume, which automatically adjusts the volume based on your usage patterns and audio input. The end result is a clean and open sound, especially for a TV with more or less invisible speakers.
In terms of physical connections, the Q90R has a typical selection of 4 HDMI, 3 USB, Ethernet, aerial, satellite/cable and optical out. The HDMI are not officially 2.1 certified, but Samsung says 2.1-style features such as Variable Refresh Rate are already enabled.
Thanks to the regular firmware updates new features should be enabled all the time.
The software on board is great and you don't feel the need to use any external player, all the software is kept clean and supports the 4K features as expected.
