LG StanbyME
LG StanbyME makes WFH more…

I had a positive first impression of this LG StanbyME smart monitor that I chanced upon at an electronic superstore but put off by its high price. I must also confess that this product was added to my cart in Lazada and Q0010 for more than 2 weeks before taking up this Insiders offer, waiting for the best price that never come. The delivery of it was uneventful on 21-Apr-2022 but it was not until 2 weeks later before I could actually test running it due to home networking issues.
It took about 15mins to fully assemble the LG StanbyME, it would take quite a bit of time if one is not used to DIY stuff. Once it's assembled properly, it's sturdy and stable. The smart monitor came pre-installed with some popular apps, e.g. Netflix, Disney+, Viu, Youtube etc., and an Apps Store that allows additional but limited app download.
Once it was up and running, everything worked as expected. As a standalone entertainment centre, the streaming from Spotify, AppleTV, Netflix, Disney+, Youtube, MeWatch, Viu, Amazon Prime Video etc. were smooth with decent video and audio quality. Playing USB audio/video contents was quick and as expected since this is not a new feature. Battery life on the other hand was close to the product specifications, it was just enough to watch The Batman movie (169mins) from HBO with battery life warning came on a couple of times starting from 15% level.
Connecting other devices to the monitor was a breeze with both wire and wireless options. I connected an iPhone and was able to play the desired contents on the bigger screen. Using it as a second monitor to my LG laptop by wireless mean was responsive.
The biggest draws for my personal preference were wireless design and built-in battery that enhanced mobility. The flexibility of different viewing angles, orientation and height adjustment were nice features but again, as expected given the pricing level. It would have been better if a couple more features are added, for instance a proper holder for the remote control or perhaps a stowaway keyboard. It would even be better if Ii can truly WFH with the smart monitor without hooking up my laptop or iPhone, this one does not allow me to connect to Zoom, WebEx and VMWare client, and has only a basic web browser.
