Does what a hybrid should…

The analog face incorporates an always on e-ink display, which is readable in strong sunlight and uses a lot less power than the OLED type on other smartwatches. It also gives the display the look of a solid face, rather than a screen, as there aren't any reflections. Fossil say this should give two weeks between charge ups. After using the watch for a few days with fitness tracking and notifications turned on, I can confirm that the battery drops by around 10% a day (giving 10 days between top ups).
The software install to my phone went without a hitch and it is easy to customise the display.
There is a backlight, but this only operates for a few seconds (a software update may fix this). When cycling through menus with the light on, it does remain on.
The watch itself is very good looking, with a decent heft to it. The strap is an excellent quality leather with a rubber back and sides, which will reduce sweat stains. I don’t often use a watch whilst swimming, but be aware that it is only splash proof (3 ATM). It does a decent job of tracking steps, heart rate and sleep monitoring.
The screen isn’t touch sensitive, instead the three customisable buttons let you move through the menu system.
Having Alexa on board is nice, but not a must have. She is useful for setting timers and alarms. There isn’t a speaker in the watch though, so you can’t make calls.
Notifications are a little tricky to read on the small display, but it isn’t trying to be full blown smartwatch. As a hybrid it covers quite a wide range of uses and pretty much succeeds in every department.
