On unboxing, you can immediately witness the craftsmanship put into the design of the watch, from the watch casing to the strap, everything looks quality and well-made. Changing the strap size was a breeze, and Fossil have their own instructional video on youtube that walks you through how to do it if you're unfamiliar with straps of this type. Set up on phone was straightforward, following the instructions provided with the watch.
I haven't had this watch long enough to test all the features - and presumably there are many which I have not encountered yet - though it is safe to say that the features you'd expect from a hybrid smartwatch are all present. The key word here is 'hybrid'. As you can tell from looking at the design of your watch, it is not your typical tacky smartwatch design, and as such you should expect less functionality when compared to a normal smartwatch - that is, a lack of a touchscreen display, a lack of colour on the display, and no ability to reply to messages. However, these drawbacks should already be obvious when making the purchase as hybrid smartwatches do not aim to replace smartwatches - rather it is a combination of a classic beautiful watch design paired with the useful functionalities that smartwatches provide. I can track all the wellbeing related parameters that I wish to track, such as calories burned, heart rate, blood oxygen, steps, and even sleep quality (!). I have yet to test the workout capabilities of the watch but if the implementation of the other wellbeing data is anything to go off, I'm sure it works well.
However, there are a few drawbacks that I wish to point out. Firstly, the refresh rate of the watch is lacking, and may be compared to a Kindle (both are also limited to black and white). This makes scrolling through the menus a bit tedious as it is not as repsonsive as you may wish it to be. Secondly, the app which was overhauled not too long ago still needs work, the watch customisation option is nice though unfinished, the preset watch designs have options that are not available when customising a watchface yourself, and some presets cannot be customised to be changed slightly. Also, when positioning different data on a custom watchface, there is no alignment option to ensure the circles are correctly positioned, which is frustrating for those who like things to be perfect.
All in all, I am quite pleased with the watch and it does what I need it to do - look like a classic watch with useful functions
