Mono UC USB-A
An O.K headset, expensive…

So I've been using the Jabra Engage 55 (mono, USB A) for a good while now. A lot of my time is spent on calls so it's got quick a bit of use. Overall, my feelings are a little mixed.
From the start, the box looks quite professional and inside you get everything required; the headset itself, the "dongle", a USB charging cable and a case for the dongle and headset. Unfortunately I'm not keen on the material for the case. It's the kind of material that I suspect is probably going to pick up all sorts of muck and bits of dust, crumbs, etc that inevitably you find in the bottom of your bag.
From a pratical perspective the headset is light weight and has great sound quality. There would be no problem keeping this on your head for any length of time. The headset worked seamlessly with everything and doesn't require any drivers or software. The experience is exactly what I'd expect from a company like Jabra.
However, the biggest downside is the cost. I'm not exactly sure what advantages I'm getting for a headset that is quite so expensive. The Dect adaptor is supposed to give better range than bluetooth but, in my experience I couldn't tell the difference. The audio from the Jabra dropped after moving a few rooms away from the dongle, maybe it went a little further than my similar bluetooth headset, but not much. However, in a large open space area maybe the range is better than bluetooth; unfortunately I'm not able to test this.
I think given that you have to use the included dongle, rather than rely upon built in bluetooth then you need to think quite hard about whether a Dect headset like this is a good option or not, as if used with a laptop on the move you will have to take the dongle with you.
So, in conclusion the headset is great but I'm not sure about the expense to pay for Dect communications. Maybe a duel Dect and bluetooth headset would be the best of both worlds....
