The return of real watches!

Like most watch wearers, all the adverts I’ve seen in recent years, whether online, in social media, or in print, have been telling me how I need to buy the latest smartwatch, how I need something that counts my steps, reads my messages, tracks my heart rate, and all sorts of fancy new features. I’ve been courted by ergonomic designs, the latest silicon materials, promised light weight and flexible devices. And, like most watch wearers, this has subtlety changed my perception of what I expect from a watch.
How utterly refreshing it feels then to wear this, a traditional watch from an established quality watch brand, which isn’t trying to dazzle me with new features, but is quietly setting out to do exactly what it was invented for - being a watch.
The moment you put this on your wrist, the difference is tangible. There’s no silicon or rubberised back covering a myriad of sensors. This has weight, and heft, the metal feels cold to the touch. It feels like you’re wearing a watch. It has presence. And it feels like it means business. Style wise, this is a business watch. It looks great with a long sleeved shirt. But with less and less people going in to the office, this also feels unusual, like a rebellion against the smart casual look. Worn socially, this would need accessorising, but with some silver framed sunglasses or a silver necklace or rings this could easily be worn out on a weekend. And would prove a real talking point amongst all the faceless black rectangles that seem to be so ubiquitous.
As a main, everyday watch, maybe the traditional watch has lost too much ground to smart watches now to ever fully recover. But for a more formal setting or to elevate an outfit, this is a great addition to any collection, and the feeling when wearing a proper watch is something that shouldn’t be lost.
