Great Tv, but left wanting…

We have upgraded from a 10+ year old 44” TV and were expecting great things. In many ways the 55” C2 delivered against the expectations, however, this is tinged with frustrations.
The first thing which struck us on receipt was how big the box was and then, how much polystyrene type packaging was included. This came as a surprise as we thought that the packaging had been adapted to be more environmentally friendly. Unboxing was simple, with the sleeve of the box lifting away, however, this happened by accident as we pondered how to lift the TV out; not sure if we missed the instructions. When it comes to instructions in the box, these are limited, a few diagrams about attaching the stand is all that is available. Why no quick guide to introduce the features and give the user a head start in getting the most out of the TV.
The TV is very sleek; thin screen, minimal bezel, discrete branding. We are very happy with the look. Upgrading from a significantly smaller screen, we were concerned that the TV would over dominate the room, however, this is not the case. It is so neat.
Set-up was straightforward, pretty much automatic with just a few selections to be made before everything was ready to go. The freeview and freesat inputs were a nice feature. The remote feels a little plasticky and the pointer can be a bit frustrating, however, nice to have the control options. Not sure about the push towards integration, we do not want to connect the TV to other smart devices.
We found the LG interface functional and in the main easy to use. The ‘smart’ element is such a huge leap from our previous set. Adding apps was no problem, although the weather app doesn’t update to the region and provide a forecast (not a problem as we didn’t want the TV for this). The screen is quite busy, however, we would rather this than having to make multiple selections to find content.
In general picture quality is very good, clear, sharp images which seem to have more depth than the old TV. There has been no signs of ghosting or picture judder. 4K content is a real treat, whilst upscaled images are handled very well, producing an excellent image.
What hasn’t been as satisfactory is the colours presented via some of the picture modes. Vivid results in oversaturated, false colours, not sure when that would be used. Sport which is supposedly optimised for fast paced action, also seems to display overly intense colours, particularly green. With most sports an unpleasant, over saturated green is going to detract from viewing pleasure and, for us, prevent the sport mode being used. The other modes don’t offer such stark differences, however, there is still a considerable difference in the colours presented; you are left wondering what the colour should be and which mode offer this.
Overall we have been satisfied with the sound output. It took a while to adapt, at first we thought it was quite hollow, no depth, however, for general TV viewing it’s more than adequate. The AI sound certainly adds some vibrancy to the sound, however, the downside to this is dialogue interlaced with music or other loud events where the dialogue tends to be overpowered and lost.
I’ve spent some time paying around with different settings, however, this is where a guide would come in handy. I don’t want to have to search online how to optimise, or stumble upon a setting option that works. More information with the TV would be useful and the simple modes need to work, otherwise there is no point them being present and everyone will just use standard mode.
Overall, despite one or two negatives, we are very happy with the TV.
