OLED55G26LA
Slim and Stylish

This is a first impressions review of the LG OLEG56G26LA 2022 "gallery edition" wall-mounted TV. As a premium 4K TV, launched new for spring 2022, it comes with the latest ultra-sharp picture quality and deep blacks that you would expect, but the feature that sets this particular model apart is undoubtably its wall mounting system. The TV comes with a special, slim bracket which pairs with a recess in the back of the TV to allow for an incredibly snug fit. Paired with a thin silver edge rather than the more normal black or glass effect, this does give a "artwork hung on the wall" look - helpfully, one of the TV's optional "always on" displays when powering off is a slow cycle through famous paintings - which as you might expect in 4K with the rich colours and blacks of this OLED screen, look amazing.
It is important to get the wall fixing done correctly, it requires getting 8 screws (provided) into your wall, in 2 rows of 4. As our desired wall mounting point was over a disused fireplace, a slight bulge in the wall there meant we had to find and use 4 washers on the top row to ensure the TV was mounted vertically. When hanging the TV on the stand, it does move a little until the stand clips are moved back with a click to secure the and hold it flush to the wall. This movement allows the TV to be levelled correctly even if the mounting itself is not perfect, but be aware of it otherwise it won't look quite right if you just push it in.
In terms of the TV user interface itself, a lot of apps come built right in, with some of the biggest names (Netflix, Amazon Prime, Google Home) appearing right on the remote control. The key new interface is using the remote control to move a cursor on the screen - this takes a bit of getting used to, especially as it gradually goes out of alignment with where you are pointing the remote control. Not all apps support the cursor mode. I do miss having simple play, rewind and stop buttons on the remote control, but a wheel and scroll substitute this quite well and I will get used to it!
The TV picture is amazing, as you would expect for this premium position in LG's range. Filmmaker mode (no smoothing/interpolation/tinting) is automatically engaged when watching Amazon Prime films which is a nice touch. For other films or channels, changing the picture effects is quite straightforward from the remote control.
All in all a great high quality package which looks fantastic in the living room: high quality but unobtrusive.
