Samsung The Freestyle
Handbag sized versatile…

I have used the Samsung Freestyle for a week and discovered some excellent features.
The sound quality and projection are excellent for such a compact unit. It is very light and extremely portable.
When watching an outside broadcast video in a dimly lit room I found the picture clear and vibrant. However, watching a dimly lit scene in a thriller I was disappointed. The dark areas merged causing the picture detail to be almost non-existent. It is no replacement for a TV.
The picture can auto adjust but I am continually manually overriding the settings which is fiddly. It will project up to 100” which is amazing, and it can be resized down to fit a specific area. I find the onscreen hints very useful. The Unit feels stable, and its versatility to project straight up or angled via its adjustable bracket base is brilliant.
The remote control has a rechargeable battery built in which I love, and it would be fantastic if one could also be incorporated in the main unit. There is provision to power it with an external battery pack.
The layout of the remote control is simple and straightforward. However, why the dedicated buttons for three apps? Programmable smart buttons would be so innovative.
The home screen is well set out and the apps are easily accessed. The choice is limited and reaction sluggish. I really miss Now TV which is not supported.
Alexa is my choice for voice control and I can use this to open the settings menu without leaving the app.
I have mirrored my phone to the projector, and it works well via wi-fi. It also has airdrop and Bluetooth. If has a HDMI input for connection via a cable.
This is my first experience of a digital projector; it is still best viewed in a darkened room but so portable and versatile!
