A great printer - once…

I really like this printer. But it wasn't all plain sailing.
The unboxing was a simple affair, with the printer housed in moulded cardboard inserts, which slipped out of the box easily when upended the correct way.
Once that was out of the way, I reviewed the quick start quide, which appeared pretty clear. However, all was not as it seemed when the printer - though connected to the same wi-fi and visible - wasn't able to be printed to. It took a while (approx. 20 mins) to troubleshoot. Thankfully, the rest of the process was relitively painless (although somewhat protracted).
Subscribing to the Instant Ink service took longer than anticipated. Now, I've already received a refill through the post (which was free, and welcomed).
The form factor is compact and the paper feed and tray slide/fold away to keep the printer out of the way. Even when out, both take up minimal space.
Leaving the printer wi-fi connected means that - when setup correctly - the printer is available via wi-fi direct, as well as connecting remotely. The send feature is very handy, being able to remotely send a document (when out of the house) and pick it up when at the printer.
My Sister (eventually) managed to print off a few documents when she visited, too.
Printing time and quality varies dependant on selected settings. In general 300dpi prints quickly and well enough for everyday use. Where required 1200dpi - while taking longer - is crisp and clear. Colour saturation is great, and the text and image quality is as I had hoped (no blurring, bleeding, or similar).
Overall. I'm very happy with printer so far. The setup and ad hoc connection can take longer than expected. But, once done, it's an easy printer to use. The output quality is good and it's pretty quick. Plus the styling is nice too.
Whilst HP could do more to make setup simpler, I'd certainly recommend to friends/family.
