HP Envy

I have been enjoying the HP Envy printer since first unboxing it. I usually print around 20-30 documents per week and occasionally I need to photocopy or scan documents. I was looking for a sleek, well-designed printer that wouldn't be too much of an eyesore at my working from home desk. The HP Envy certainly fits that bill as it looks very smart and compact and the all-white styling is very minimal. I like the fold-out paper tray and the simple buttons and lights. I have been using it with the HP Smart software on my laptop and I have encountered very few issues with the connection once it was up and running. I think it will also come in handy in the future to be able to download this app onto my phone and print directly from there. I like being able to print, scan and copy but have yet to use the Mobile Fax function (and probably will be unlikely to do so in the future). I have already had my first delivery of the HP Instant Ink and I think this model of subscription will work well for me and the volume of documents I typically print. Others may find that if they print more than this, it is less suited to their needs. I also like that it encourages environmental sustainability. The print quality is generally very good. I do print some labels which require a very high-quality print and I was slightly disappointed with the outcome of my labels using this printer, however, this printing requires a much higher quality than most people will be using their home printers for, and therefore, this is not a big issue for me. I think one downside for me is that when you opt into HP+, whilst you get the benefit of a year extra warranty and 9 months of free ink, this does mean you are tied into using HP branded cartridges for the lifetime of the printer. For some, this may be an inconvenience. It was very easy to set up and I did it in around 10 minutes. The printer does say it can be set up over wifi, but I was prompted by the HP installation software to insert a cable into the back of the printer and my laptop to finish set up. This was not an issue for me as I already had the required lead from another device, however, if I hadn't had this lead, I may have encountered issues during the set-up process. Overall, I am happy with my HP Envy and I think it is very reasonably priced for the device. The takeaway highlights are the design (complete with different coloured lights and chimes when the printer is on); the ability to print, scan and copy; and app connection.
