LG C1 55 inch 4K Smart OLED TV (OLED55C14LB)
Great picture but annoying…

This LG TV replaced a non-OLED set and although the LG is better in terms of sound and picture quality the previous one was far easier in terms of adjusting colour & sound settings, and in general use.
Starting with the pros:
The deep blacks of the OLED screen are wonderful and the contrast between light and dark elements of a scene makes evry other screen in my house feel washed out, even when the source is not HDR.
The sound quality from the built-in speakers is amazing to the point that I haven't bothered reinstalling my soundbar so far.
I've not played with this yet but apparently it's possible to have send notifications to the TV, for example from your smart home setup or security cameras.
It looks super sleek :)
Cons:
I don't watch any live TV so have disabled the rather invasive "smart" features which:
Monitor what you're watching and report back to LG or other providers to target advertising at you.
Analyse what you're watching to give you details about the content of the show/movie.
I can see how this would be useful, similar to Amazon Prime Video's X-Ray feature but it's one more thing tracking your habits.
The LG ThinQ smart hub only wants to work with my wifi smart devices and not things like my Smartthings or Hue setup which makes it pretty limited in my opinion. It would be great to be able to have full control over my house from the screen.
The TV can't be controlled by Google et al when on standby even with the relevant power settings enabled. It can however be controlled by the LG app on your smartphone.
Some settings are hidden under the help menu instead of in the a more appropriate section.
It has Apple Airplay so seems silly to not have Chromecast built-in too. This is a great miss in our family as we're always showing video clips or lining up cartoons for the kids to watch without having to look for the remote.
The shiny black hard plastic remote feels cheap.
Having a separate homescreen and LG Thinq smart app feels clunky and is annoying to navigate.
There are a few more little niggles than I've listed here but overall the picture and sound quality far outweigh the downsides. I've not agreed to the advertising terms which disables the tracking, setup the TV how I like it and will use a Google TV dongle for casting.
Overall I highliy recommend this TV set!
