As an Avon Area Manager, I must look the part and I feel accessories are the way to go. I was excited to be able to try the new Fossil Hybrid Smartwatch. I have never owned a smartwatch before and was apprehensive about doing so but Fossil offered a subtle yet classy hybrid alternative and not pricy like some on the market. The watch arrived in Fossils recognisable packaging and was easy to unpack and set-up. I had to remove a couple of links by following the instructions on the Fossil Care website – easy step-by-step. To set the smart aspect of the watch, the Apple Fossil Hybrid Smartwatch phone application had to be downloaded from the respective app store and paired with the watch which has a user-friendly interface. The pairing set-up is talked through with you via instructions on your phone screen and the best part is the watch automatically syncs to the time on your phone so no need to fiddle about with twisting pins! Once paired you are ready to go about setting up notifications which are easily customisable via the phone app and include calls, messages, music, stopwatch, alarms, timer, weather, call my phone and workout vitals. Working for a large company I am constantly commuting and involved in meeting clients, and this involves working to strict deadlines, so being able to see the time and answer or reject calls and see messages discretely without the need to look at my phone is a godsend of a feature. The watch saves me from having to get my phone out of my bag in unsavoury places or noticeably disrupt important meetings. The ability to send a call to voicemail and/or notify them that I will return their call shortly - it allows me to continually be productive without having to appear rude or put myself at risk. In terms of smarter notifications, the watch and phone app allow you to monitor your daily life from your step count to the number of calories burnt, your heart rate, and the amount of time you spent sleeping. The vitals are recorded in daily, weekly, and monthly charts for easy viewing and helps me to monitor my blood sugar levels indirectly as I can understand calorie intake and outtake. In terms of exercise, you can link friends and challenge them to competitive exercise events and see the history of your workouts and badges earned, oh and the rankings which is fun as I can get competitive, and I find it improves stimulation and motivation. The fitness exercise data collected can also be exported into the Apple Health App (Not sure how it relates to Android – Sorry!), this keeps your data secure and in a central app for viewing and comparing data. In the Fossil Watch packaging separate to the watch, there was also the watch charger unit. Ideal for keeping in your bag or car, it is small and discrete, it magnetically snaps onto the rear of the watch to allow re-charge. Generally, the charge time to 100% is insignificant compared to other smartwatches on the market to-date. It only takes around 50 minutes to reach 80% charge. For me personally the battery life lasts in the range of 7-14 days and is dependent on the usage and the number of notifications that come through. Simply put the Hybrid watch is not brimming with features. In the 21st century where screens are getting bigger and smarter, the Hybrid watch minimises your screen time in a subtle way. It keeps just a few carefully selected features which are mostly fitness related that aim to improve quality of life. Fossil know how to keep their watches affordable, current, and subtle with self-care at heart.
