Severely impaired by poor…

I will start with the positives. The watch has a great build quality, design aesthetic and a stellar battery life. But sadly the negatives outweigh the plus points and I believe in being completely honest in a review... warts and all.
It has a nice design but for a watch that I believe is meant to appeal to men, (that's usually something a bit chunky and bold), this one is quite small and It looks a bit lost on my wrist. The backlighting doesn't illuminate evenly and cheapens the look somewhat. The menu system is very fiddly and the step counter isn't accurate enough.
But what really lets the side down badly, is the software and app. The initial setup is all over the place and there's little or no tutorial for either operation or customisation.
Now I am very tech savvy and usually have no problems with any sort of technology, but Fossil have made me scratch my head in frustration at trying to set up the watch to my satisfaction. The app is unintuitive and trying to apply downloaded templates fails every time. You are left to work things out for yourself. Having to result to watching third party YouTube videos to get the job done. It's not what I should need to do.
The built-in software on the watch is just as quirky. I think more could be done to allow extra functions on long press of the buttons. You only get 3 shortcuts, so to access others requires lengthy menu navigation.
As a timepiece it looks good, and the battery will last a good couple of weeks. As a smartwatch however it just doesn't cut it. It's a frustrating experience of trial an error, a poorly laid out design and woeful software.
