A premium power mop with…

The Kärcher FC7 enters a segment of the premium cleaning device market that doesn’t quite exist; at least not yet. The FC7 fills a void that was only semi-occupied by robotic vacuums and mops - a battery powered motorised mop. From the initial unboxing Kärcher has made the setup as simple as possible with clear instructions and a quick-start guide. That being said, once the initial setup is complete the setup and teardown/self-clean can be a touch tedious but the results make it worth it.
Before starting a cleaning session it is important to ensure the battery is fully charged, the dual motor configuration, while powerful, is power hungry however I’m yet to run out of charge mid-clean. The water tank is easy to fill and the device comes with a little bottle of concentrated cleaning solution - a single small capful is all that’s needed.
Starting with dry rollers it’s important to begin the soaking function to ensure a good clean start. Especially important is to start on the section of flooring that’s the most clean; I made the mistake of starting on the dirtiest patch of my mudroom to put it through its paces and ended up spreading a thin layer of dirt to the rest of my house. The lesson learned here though is that the rollers should, as they get dirty, be manually hand washed and rinsed before moving on from a dirtier section of flooring. I should also point out that it did an insanely great job of cleaning the muddy mudroom - a night and day difference!
The premium build quality and engineering of the FC7 really shines when the dirty water reservoir needs emptying. Given its location and how it’s released I was slightly apprehensive but the body lifts away from the dirty water reservoir with ease and while this sounds like a small consideration it’s the small things that can make a good product a great product.
Before using the FC7 my primary hard surface cleaner was a steam mop that was mains powered and just had a rug mat beneath it pushing around larger dirt particles. The FC7 solves both these issues with a sweeping actual and battery power - not dragging cord!
The final self-clean can be a bit of a ritual to get all the hair/dirt build up off the rollers and catchers but the time this all may take is worth the time saved over the whole cleaning session.
In the same way a clever tool can make certain chores fun, the Kärcher FC7 is now making me want to clean my hard floors way more often than I could ever be bothered.
