I received this product at a reduced price in exchange for my honest review.
After using the Google Pixel Tablet as my main device for a few weeks, I've had a surprisingly positive experience using it. The tablet stands out with its unique ability to function as both a tablet and a smart home display using the included speaker dock, and I do think it's a winning combo! However it certainly has areas for improvement, and whilst the dual tablet + smart home display is its standout feature - I would say it's more a jack of all trades, but master of none combo in its current form. But at this price point.... I am ok with that.
Positives
- Hybrid tablet & smart home display
- Free speaker dock
- Native Android experience
- Cheap compared to it's main competition
Negatives
- Feels sluggish / slow on some tasks
- Lack of smart home dashboard found Googles Nest Hub devices
The process of docking the tablet is seamless, with magnets easily locking it into place and allowing for easy removal when transitioning back to tablet mode. This synergy between the tablet and dock enhances the overall user experience.
Setting up the Google Pixel Tablet was quick and efficient, taking only about five minutes. The device offers a pure Android experience without unnecessary bloatware, streamlining the initial setup and ensuring users can dive into the tablet's features hassle-free.
Despite these strengths, there are a few drawbacks. The tablet's performance fell short for me as it felt slower compared to my phone and even an older iPad I use. I encountered instances of freezing and sluggishness, though these issues eventually resolved themselves.
Another criticism is the absence of a smart home dashboard present in the rest of Google's Nest hub line. While not a dealbreaker, it feels like a missed opportunity that could potentially be addressed through a future software update.
In conclusion, the latest Google Pixel Tablet is a thumbs up from me. While it's not perfect, for its price range you're getting a solid tablet with native Android, as well as an integrated smart Home Screen when docked on the included free speaker docking station. I would give it a well-deserved 4-star rating, acknowledging its strengths while also highlighting areas for improvement. I would personally like to see a Pro model released alongside the Pixel Tablet.
